How to Make Fun Animal Shape Sponges
Project Overview
Animal sponges are easy to make and are fun for kids to use. Learn how to make these fun animal-shaped sponges here.
This was such a fun and simple craft to do, and now I can't stop thinking about all of the possibilities!
Of course, these sponges make great tub toys, but they could also be added to gift packaging, teach shapes or letters, or so much more!
To make these cute little guys, I got some help from myCricut.
I am not an artist so I knew I wouldn't be able to freehand the animal shapes, and the Cricut took care of that for me.

To start, open a new project in Cricut Design Space.
Search the images for shapes that you want to put on your sponges.
I found shapes of a pig, monkey, bear, fish, turtle, and elephant, but you could go with any theme you want.
*note: I did cut off the loop on the teddy bear's head, but I simply did that with a pair of scissors after it was cut out.
You'll want the shape of the animal to take up most of the size of the sponge.
Measure the sponge and adjust the size of the animal to fit inside.
While all the layers of the animals are cute, I don't need them. I only need that base outline shape.
Select the shape and go to the layers panel. Here you can remove the different layers so you are left with the base shape.
When all shapes are adjusted, select Make It and follow the prompts in Cricut Design Space to cut out your animal shapes.
Place an animal shape on top of a sponge and trace around the shape with a marker.
Using a pair of scissors, cut around the drawn outline.
Cut around the shaped sponge at a slight angle to cut off any marker that is showing.
The different shapes all turned out so cute and my preschoolers love playing with them in the tub!
